What is your definition of the expression, “I’m living the good life!”?
If I took a poll here are some of the things that folks might include in their answers.
From a nine-year-old boy: “Hey, Mom, Dad, I just got picked to play first string quarter back! Man, I’m living the good life!”
From a teenager: “Guess what! I’m getting my own iPod for my birthday. I’ll be living the good life soon!”
From a newly married couple: “We’ve both got good jobs and nice cars. Now we’ve been approved by the bank to finance our new house! Wow! Are we living the good life or what?”
From a seventy year old retiree living on a minimum income who has just won a hundred thousand dollars playing the lottery: “I’m living on easy street now! The good life has finally come my way!!!”
Every phase of our lives is different, and there is no wrong in seeing our hopes and dreams fulfilled. Yet without the proper foundation our living the good life will come to naught.
Oswald Chambers has said, “The Lord does not give me rules, but He makes His standard very clear. If my relationship to Him is that of love, I will do what He says…if I hesitate, it is because I love someone I have placed in competition with Him, namely myself.”
Every person is the center of their own private little world. But until they invite their Creator to join them there, that world will eventually shatter into a million meaningless pieces.
Beloved, if we want to be living the good life, the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule are still our best guidelines. Can you quote them? A recent poll says that 80 per cent of professing Christians cannot. See Exodus 20:2-17: Matthew 7:12 and Luke 6:31
