Inspiratins From The Mountains

by Rebecca Somoskey

All created things have a voice. Some can be heard by the ear. Others must be heard by the heart. Because last Saturday was an especially warm March day, the frogs were making a great racket. It was time for their mating season and their love songs were loud and clear. Our spirits were lifted because, after an especially trying winter, we were reminded that spring is on it's way. Psalm 19 tells us the heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night shows knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Isaiah 55 says the hills shall break forth into singing and the trees of the field shall clap their hands. What wondrous voices we can hear from creation if we but listen with our both our ears and our hearts.
I think of the many voices I have listened to over the years, and some of the memories bring grief to my heart. The three most vicious ones were the voices of the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. I listened to them, and gave in to their pleadings, but no matter how much they gave, I was still left with a sick body, a sick soul and a sick spirit. They never lived up to their promises.
Dear Reader, can you identify? If so let me ask you a question. To which voices are you listening? Yes, a thousand voices assault us everywhere we go, especially the destructive ones. The media and our culture will not let us be at peace, and they continue to bombard us with what looks good, what feels good and what will make us look good to others. Our only hope is to listen with our hearts to God's voice spoken through His Holy Word, and His glorious creation.
Remember when Jesus was tempted by Satan He defeated him with God's Word. I cannot emphasize it strongly enough. To find the peace and joy you crave read the Bible every day, and when you have the opportunity, observe His creation. Listen with your ears and your hearts and He will speak to you in incredible ways. Isaiah 30:21 And your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left."
