From A Rebel to A Servant PDF Print E-mail

Inspirations From The Mountains

At the age of seven I was born again at my Mother's knee. I loved Jesus with all my heart, even into my adult years. Still, I was a rebel. I was always wanting to have my own way, becoming frustrated or angry when I didn't get it, and then harboring resentment in my heart. Often I would choose my own way instead of obeying God's Word. I knew it was wrong, but couldn't seem to get over my weakness. Like a spoiled child, I was a miserable Christian much of the time. My rebellion stole a large per cent of my joy.

"Why, God?" I finally cried out to Him and He showed me that the rebellion was inherited from my Mother and Daddy and they inherited it from their parents, etc., etc., all the way back to Adam and Eve.  Psalm 51:5 says, "Behold, I was shaped in iniquity; and in sin did my Mother conceive me." And so were we all.

If I were to ask ten people what the worst sin the world is, I would probably get ten different answers. Terrorism, Mass murder, child rape and sexual deviations would be on the list. But the Bible teaches that rebellion is the daddy of all sin. It began in the Garden of Eden when Satan lied to Adam and Even and they believed him and then insisted on having their own way. They partook of the forbidden fruit.

l Samuel 15:23 says that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.  Why? Because as soon as we rebel we give Satan control of our lives and he has his way with us. The results can be seen all around us.

How can we be free? I was finally delivered when God showed me that I did not have to have my way, and that to be free I must become His servant, and like Him, be a servant to others. Even as the Son of man came not to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28) As I have learned to be a servant, I have been delivered from being a miserable rebel. In turn my life is filled with peace.

Dear God, Forgive us for clinging to the burden of always having to have our own way. Where would we be if You had insisted on having Yours? Give us a servants heart. ...by love serve one another. Galatians 5:13  --Rebecca Somoskey
