Inspirations From The Mountains

Awhile back, after an especially difficult night' I tumble out of bed around 3:30 a.m. and struggled to the chair where I have my devotions. "Lord," I wept. "I'm so weary I'm not sure I'll be very good company this morning." I reached for my journal and pulled out my memory verse cards, then tried to quote them from memory, but my mind was too foggy. So, I read them instead. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in our tribulation that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (2 Corinthians 1:3&4)  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27) By the time I repeated the first two verses tears were streaming down my face. The scriptures had begun to sooth me. I picked up my Bible and clutched it to my breast. "Jesus, if I could only step into this priceless book and be with You in person, touch You and feel You touching me, how wonderful it would be."

A nugget was dropped into my thoughts by the Holy Spirit. Every time I open my Bible and read its words, I am touching Jesus and He is touching me, because the written word is our tangible--touchable connection to God.

Then I was reminded of a picture I had seen long ago of a missionary who had handed out all his Bibles to a group of Russian ladies. Empty hands were still reaching out, and pleading faces seemed to beg, "Please, don't you have one for me? Isn't there more?"
Forgive me Lord. I am so blessed. I have numerous Bibles in a variety of translations but too often I have not treated your Word as I should. I have been careless and neglectful instead of cherishing it and giving it the most honorable place in my life.

Since that morning I have not been the same. Now, my Bible is my most cherished earthly possession. I not only read it daily, but I have also become a Bible hugger.
