Inspirations From The Mountains

December 28, 2009

Forgive me for behaving like a child this week. But I AM in my second childhood, so perhaps folks will understand.  Remember how we used to use the expression “I dare you!” when we wanted someone to rise to a particular challenge? An even stronger challenge was “I double dare you!” The challenges were not always safe or in the best interest of the other person, and harm rather than good was done. Example: “I double dare you to take a drink of this beer!”

This week I am going to give all my faithful readers ten challenges for this New Year we’ve been blessed with. But rather than harm, these challenges will change your life for good in ways you never dreamed. I know, for I speak from personal experience.

Ready? Here Goes!

  1. I dare you to read the entire Bible through in 2010, or at least the New Testament. (Acts 20:27)
  2. I dare you to stop long enough to give the Lord your undivided attention for a half hour every day. He’s waiting for you to notice Him. (See Revelation 3:20)
  3. I dare you to memorize one or more Bible verses each month in 2010. You can begin with the ones I have mentioned here. (Psalm 119:11)
  4. I dare you to go to church and mingle with God’s people no less than once a week. (Hebrews 10:25)
  5. I dare you to kick one bad habit or unhealthy activity this year. Seek the Holy Spirit for help.( Hebrews 12:1)
  6. I dare you to take at least two steps this year to remodel you body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)
  7. I dare you to pay your tithe—ten percent of you income which already belongs to God anyway. (Malachi 3:10; Matthew 23:23)
  8. I dare you to find someone who is going through difficult times and help them however you can. (1 John 3:17)
  9. I dare you to exchange your words of criticism for your government leaders and your fellow man to prayers and encouraging words. (Luke 6:37; Titus 3:2; James 3:8-10)
  10. I "double dare" you to take every one of the above dares and see what blessings will come your way.

Have an incredible New Year with God!—Rebecca Somoskey
