Emory’s crops were bountiful this year. A small patch of ground produced potatoes, tomatoes, corn, green beans, cabbage, onions, peppers, turnips, cucumbers, also a few pumpkins for the grandkids. Even our cherry trees were loaded.We‘ve fared well on the abundance, gave away bushels, and still our shelves are lined with jars and jars of canned foods.
Why was it so prosperous? Because of Emory’s love and dedication to gardening. It began with healthy soil that was fertilized, then good seeds were dropped into the dirt. After that there was daily weeding, plenty of rain, sunshine and many prayers. If any part had been neglected there would have been no harvest.
But there’s another harvest to be considered. It’s a harvest beyond our imagination--the lost souls of humanity. Literally thousands upon thousands of God’s people are working the fields. Some are fertilizing the soil of the hearts of the lost by getting involved in their lives—showing them they care. Some are planting the seeds of the Word, while others water them with intercessory prayer. Then the Sonshine of the Holy Spirit does the rest. One plants, one waters, but God gives the increase, and we are reaping an abundant harvest.
But there is so much more to be done. Millions of souls are even now living the words of Jeremiah 8:20. The harvest is past, the summer is ended and we are not saved. Jesus said, "The harvest is truly plentiful but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." (Matthew 9:37) Do you not say, “There are still four months and then comes the harvest?” Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest. (John 4:35)
There’s an old song we used to sing: Souls are crying, men are dying; won’t you lead them to the cross? Go and find them, help to win them. Win the lost at any cost. God out and win, rescue from sin, day is almost done, low sinks the sun. Souls are crying, men are dying. Wind the lost at any cost.
We can all do something. Some of us are called to be givers, some pray-ers and some are goers. The fields are waiting, and we must all go out to work them. Emory’s garden crop has been harvested, but the lost and dying of our world are still waiting. If you are not already involved in the world’s soul harvest, please join us. Pray that God will give you a job to do, either giving of your resources, interceding in prayer, or going into the fields.
