Inspirations From The Mountains
Am I The Broken Link?
Recently we attended the funeral of a dear friend we had not seen in years. Our memories of her were of an always sweet spirited Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart and attended church regularly. But we had moved away, and lost touch, so we were broken hearted when we learned she had become addicted to prescription drugs and had finally taken her own life to escape her pain.
As we discussed it later I wept and cried out, "God, where were You in this tragedy? Wasn't there someone nearby who could have come to her aid before she pulled the trigger? There were Christian neighbors all around!"
Emory responded, "This is why I pray every day that the Lord will send laborers into the harvest, not just on foreign fields but into the fields in our own back yards. I believe He does, but not all who He calls will go." Then he explained it this way. "For every dying soul God may prepare a chain of different people to reach them. He may call one to intercede in prayer, another to go visit, another to share the Word. Then, one may be compelled to be a watchman to check on that soul at the specific time they are overcome by the enemy and are contemplating suicide. But sometimes that one who is moved upon shrugs it off, or forgets, so a vital link is broken and a life is lost."
Perhaps that is what happened to our friend. I thought much about his words. What about that person who failed to heed God, either to pray, to visit, to share the Word, or to be a watchman. Would they not have to give an account in the judgement? We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. (Romans 15:1) Now we exhort you brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the weak, be patient with all. (1Thessalonians 5:14) Wherefore, lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees. (Hebrews 12:12)For we are laborers together with God. (1 Corinthians 3:9) Bear ye one ' burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)
Since that time I have determined to be more sensitive to the Holy Spirit when He urges me to act, because I do not want to become the broken link. That persons' blood may be on my hands.
