man_with_head_on_handDid you ever hear the story of what the dear old dad said to his son, who was leaving home to make his on way? Instead of a long lecture he simply said, “Son, remember this. No matter where you go, there you are.”

I laughed the first time I read it because I thought it was a joke.  But the more I thought about it, the more I realized the great truth in those few words.

As Christ followers, wherever we find ourselves, it is ordered by our Heavenly Father, and we are to rise to every challenge we face. If we do, we will learn lessons we never dreamed possible about what a great God He is. We can also do things for God we never dreamed we could do.

The Apostle Paul is a perfect example. Although he was innocent he found himself spending years in jail for crimes he did not commit.  The result was two of my most favorite epistles by Paul: Philippians and 2 Timothy. Here is the attitude he adopted. I want you to know, brethren that the things that have happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel. Philippians 1:12. …I have learned in whatever state I am in, to be content. Philippians 4:11b (My attitude now!)

Due to several health problems I find myself confined and often lonely. At first I kicked and screamed and wallowed in self pity. Then the Holy Spirit  reminded me of the good things that are happening in my spiritual life and my ministry. I have more time to apply to study and writing my inspirations. I’m learning to wait before Him until He gives me what needs to be said. And rarely does a week go by when I don’t get one or more positive responses to the message. Recently one reader emailed me. She wrote: “The past two inspirations have been exactly what I needed to hear that day.” So now I can say what the Psalmist said. It is good for me that I have been afflicted that I may learn Your statutes. Psalm 119:71.   I know, oh Lord, that Your judgments are right and that in faithfulness You have afflicted me. Psalm 119:75.

So Beloved, if you find yourself in a position you are unhappy with, call on the Lord. He may not answer immediately but He has a purpose and He will show you the benefits of being there. You can make the best of your circumstances no matter how uncomfortable or confusing they may be.

And never forget that no matter where you go, there you are!!
