Becky Somoskey, was a writer of poetry, stories, books and encouraging words for the whole family!
Rebecca Ann Somoskey of the Bearwallow section of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at her home. She was 75 years old.
Becky was born in Tahoka, Texas, the daughter of the late Mabry Dee and Angeline Kindrick Richardson. She had made her home in the Bearwallow area for the past 15 years. She was a graduate of Valley High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She wrote a column for the Richlands News Press “Inspirations from the Mountains” for several years. She was very involved in the local communities including Bearwallow Mountain, Richlands and Cedar Bluff in Virginia as well as Craft events in War, West Virginia where all her and Emory Somoskey’s children graduated from Big Creek High School.
She was a member of and a very active leader with the Appalachian Authors Guild. Her poetry and stories as well as non-fiction articles were published nationally. She taught her children music and was a highly active musician and singer in the local churches throughout the region.
We continue to share her “inspirations” with family and friends as much as possible and will continue the legacy she has left us. We plan for this website to continue for years to come.
