Spending my Bonus!! PDF E-mail
January 25, 2010 Psalm 90:10 The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow. I dreaded turning seventy, but now that it has happened I've suddenly realized that I have been handed a very special bonus from my Heavenly Father. Extra days, perhaps years await. However, He didn't give them to me because I earned them but only through His mercy and grace. I am humbled.

Now, what am I going to do with this special bonus? I could cave in to the pain and distress of an aging body and cloudy mind. I could spend my days with all my regrets and sorrows, or with plans to gratify my flesh.  But is that really the way I want to spend my bonus?  Never!! So I cry out to Him: Now also, when I am old and gray headed, O God, do not forsake me until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to all who is to come.( Psalm 71:18 NKJV)

Hallelujah!! This is what He has planned for me. Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made and I will bear, even I will carry, and will deliver you. Isaiah 46:4( ) This one is even better. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age. They shall be fresh and flourishing. (Psalm 92:13-14 )

So, with God's help I am going to do all I can to make every moment count for the Kingdom. Whatever my hand finds to do I am going to do it. (See Ecclesiastes 9:10) I must seize each moment, each hour, each day, and live through the painful ones as learning experiences which are meant to develop spiritual muscle, and the happy times must be filled with praise for a little taste of heaven and for fulfilling my purposes to reach out and help whoever He sends across my path. In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.(1 Thessalonians 5:18)

One moment at a time; one day at a time.

Beloved, have you been given a bonus? It could be an unexpected bonus of money, time, or an opportunity. How will you spend it? -Rebecca Somoskey
